Hi, everyone, Aidan here with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the etrailer Folding and Tilting Hitch-Mounted Cargo Carrier, and we're gonna see how it fits on the back of our 2024 Chevrolet Traverse Limited. Now, if you're looking for a cargo carrier, because you need to store some extra stuff with you, this is gonna be a great way to go, especially on you Traverse. If you've got that third row of seats up, storage space is limited, and if you're going on a road trip or just picking up stuff from the store like the hardware store, keeping that stuff out here is gonna be a great place to go. You get a good weight capacity, and the carrier is plenty large. My father-in-law personally owns this exact carrier, and he loves it.

We use it pretty much every year when we go to Christmas with the grandparents, because grandma goes a little crazy with presents. We drive up with it folded up, and always come back with it loaded down with gear. So it's a place where everyone's luggage to go, presents, things like that, and it's safe space for everyone riding in the back seat. But this is going to be, like I said, a large carrier, so you gotta keep some things in mind. First off, usable space, we'll cover that.

Front to back, you're working with 24 inches of usable space, and going side to side, it's gonna be 60 inches. So I've not run into an instance where this hasn't been big enough, but always check your stuff, check out what you're putting in here, and making sure that it fits. The one thing I will say about the size of it is that it sticks out a lot though. Because it's designed to fold and tilt, it's gonna stick out really far from the vehicle and add a lot of length, at least when you're driving. And that exact measurement's gonna be 41 inches from the bumper of your Traverse.

So watch out for that if you are having it flat and pulling into parking spaces, it's a lot of extra length on the back of the Traverse. But you get a lot of space in here too, 16 inches from the bumper to be exact, where we can come in, strap stuff down from either side, and get to the back if we need it. But speaking of getting to the back, that's where the tilting feature comes into play. There's gonna be two pins located at our pivot point. I'm gonna remove this top stopper one first, and this bottom one.

Once I pull that pin, it will allow us to tilt the carrier down and away from the vehicle. Now, in theory, all your stuff is strapped down properly, so it doesn't shift around, and that allows you to open up the back hatch, never coming in line with said stuff, and giving you full access to the back of your vehicle where any other things that you need access to you can get. And then you can just fold it right back down, pull this up into the driving position, and be on your way. (hatch thudding) The other thing I do wanna check out in the driving position real quick is going to be your ground clearance. Now, I'm just gonna leave it temporarily there, because we're gonna fold it pretty much right up. But our ground clearance is gonna be a big deal, because our hitch on our Traverse does sit up quite tall. And with a small rise in the carrier, we're getting 21 1/2 inches of ground clearance, which is great, considering it does stick out so far, and when weighed down with stuff, will lose a couple inches. It's gonna be plenty though to keep your stuff safe and keep the carrier from bottoming out. The other thing I think is really nice in this position is how far away we are from the exhaust. Not only are we sitting taller, but we're also sitting quite a great distance away from the exhaust. So heat sensitive items I think should be just fine, really, anywhere on the carrier. But now, let's check out that folding feature, that's really what sets this apart. And again, with both pins removed, that's what allows us to fold this upright, and re-pin it at the bottom just like this. And your second pin can just get stored really wherever, this little spot in the end works just fine for that. And the big benefit here is the saved space. So from that same point on the bumper to the new furthest out point is only 16 inches. So let's say you are using this on a road trip. You get to your destination, yo
