Colleagues from DG Interpretation and DG Translation, the linguistic services of the European Commission, reflect on the EU enlargement of 2004. 10 new countries joined the EU (Czechia, Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Slovenia and Slovakia) which meant both services needed to cover 9 new official EU languages (Czech, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Hungarian, Maltese, Polish, Slovenian and Slovakian)!
