Arturo Sandoval (1949), born in Artemisa, Cuba, is a trumpeter, pianist, composer, and band leader. Emerging from a musical background in Cuba, Sandoval's journey began in the prestigious National School of Arts in Havana, where he studied classical trumpet before delving into jazz. In the early 1970s, Sandoval gained international recognition as a member of the groundbreaking Cuban jazz ensemble Irakere, led by the legendary Chucho Valdés. In the early 1990s, Arturo Sandoval defected to the United States, seeking artistic freedom and the opportunity to pursue his passion for jazz without political constraints.Arturo Sandoval's band, comprising top-tier musicians, is a dynamic ensemble that reflects the rich tapestry of Cuban and jazz traditions. Sandoval's discography is extensive. Notable works include "Trumpet Evolution," "A Time for Love," and "Dear Diz (Every Day I Think of You)," a heartfelt tribute to his mentor Dizzy Gillespie.
Arturo Sandoval is a twelve-time Grammy Award-winner.
