In April 2019, SMS Equipment deployed the first Komatsu 980E-4AT into Canadian operations. The 980E-4AT is the largest Komatsu autonomous (driverless) dump truck, and is capable of hauling 400 tons of material.

Komatsu commercialized the Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) in 2008. As of 2019, AHS trucks have hauled over 2 billion tons (cumulative) of material, which is more than all other commercial autonomous haulage systems combined.
