We have been sharing together on the last Tuesday of every November since 2012 to raise social awareness.
This year it will be celebrated in more than 90 countries.
When you think of sharing, do not immediately think of sharing material things like, handing money, or making donations.
Of course, these are important, but it is more like whoever can offer what they can...
Sometimes this means devoting time, sharing a talent; Sometimes it means calling someone we love and making them smile; It means saying hello while walking on the road; Sometimes it is sharing information.
Remember, we experienced a very painful disaster in February 2023.
While the pain we were experiencing was still fresh, we came together as science volunteers and broadcast non-stop for days.
There was something we said back then.
This should be a long-term charity marathon.
To make sharing a personal virtue and a social culture...
People who never knew each other but at best maybe heard of each other in real life, came together in one day and formed a huge group.
Here, volunteers from different fields shared their knowledge day and night. Some of them were just our young student brothers and sisters.
In fact, the students we were supposed to support were there to support us.
They asked what we could do, they did not sleep, they told what they knew.
They wanted to explain, they wanted these to be understood so that it would not happen again.
Just like our conversations by the fire.
They continued to collect donations with an non-stop broadcast.
We are already a society that loves to share.
We even have a proverb which means: "Do a good deed and throw it into the sea; if the fish doesn't appreciate it, the creator of the seas does."
Our affection towards even the stray animals, us sharing our food with them, and the cats of Istanbul are known all over the world for this reason.
Because when we share, we not only make the other party happy, we also become happy.
Just like when the other party feels pain, we also feel that pain.
We also share happiness, one becomes two.
Yes, ARK does not just mean a boat.
This is also a scientific explanation of goodness:
Act of Random Kindness, ARK, means the act of doing random kindness.
Doing an ARK every day not only reduces stress, anxiety and depression.
At the same time, hormones that increase your happiness begin to circulate in both your body and the body of the person you do good to.
You feel calmer, more peaceful, healthier.
Moreover, sharing is contagious.
When someone does a favor to you, you want to do a favor to others because of the happiness you experience.
You are starting an ARK.
Jumping from one to another…
It's like the butterfly effect.
A small impact you make here can touch someone else's life on the other side of the world.
Moreover, those who do ARK regularly make more friends and have a larger circle.
They also feel less alone when they need help.
Well, when you think about those conversations by the fire at the beginning of everything, isn't it so meaningful?
We are together because we are stronger when we are together.
We share because sharing multiplies.
We learn, we become smarter creatures.
We become happy, we become peaceful, we become healthier.
If we want to change the world, let's start with ourselves first.
Let's donate as much as we can financially.
But let's not underestimate our spiritual power.
Let's start an ARK today, on the day of sharing.
While walking on the road, say "Good morning!" to someone we don't know with a smile. Let's say, "Thank you" to those who prepared the table we shared at dinner.
Let's share something we know, even if it's small, let's make time for each other... Let's be kind. Let's just start somewhere.
Today is a great day to start this.
