Meet Dr. Robert Newberry, a chemical biologist at @UTAustin and a member of the LGBTQ community, who studies how the properties and behaviors of molecules produce the phenomena of life. His lab focuses in particular on molecules in the brain that contribute to neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
In this video, Newberry reveals how his identity as an out gay man intersects with his work to make him a more successful scientist. He also discusses the importance of challenging misperceptions and preconceived notions, as well as the value that new and distinct perspectives bring when tackling scientific problems.
