10) The Iron Dome
Israel's Iron Dome is the world's first interceptor missile and is believed to have a 90 percent success rate in hitting targets.
Iron Dome is a mobile all-weather air defense system designed to intercept and destroy short-range missiles and artillery shells fired from a distance of 4 km to 70 km.
Its main mission is to intercept and shoot down missiles flying towards urban areas - it is the first system of its kind in the world.
9) S-300VM
The S-300VM Antey-2500 is a Russian anti-ballistic missile system. The system is designed to defeat short- and medium-range ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and fixed-wing aircraft, as well as sabotage ECM platforms and precision-guided munitions.
8) HQ-9
HQ-9 is a new generation of medium to long range surface-to-air missile equipped with Chinese-made active homing radar.
The system can detect 100 targets and track 50 targets simultaneously at an angle of 360 degrees. Similar to the Russian S-300 and the US Patriot, the HQ-9 uses an HT-233 PESA radar system.
7) BARAK 8 or BARAK 8
The Barak-8 also known as LR-SAM or MR-SAM is an Indian-Israeli surface-to-air missile. There are marine and land versions of the system. Designed to defend against any type of airborne threat including drones, helicopters, anti-ship missiles and drones as well as ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and combat aircraft.
6) THAAD
It is a US anti-ballistic missile defense system designed to shoot down short and medium-range ballistic missiles in their final stage (descent or reentry) by hitting them with a hit-to-kill approach. THAAD was developed after the experience of Iraqi Scud missile attacks during the Gulf War in 1991. The THAAD interceptor missile carries no warhead, but relies on its kinetic energy upon impact to destroy the incoming missile. Kinetic energy reduces the risk of explosion of conventional warhead ballistic missiles, and the warheads of nuclear-tipped ballistic missiles will not detonate after a kinetic energy strike.
5) PATRIOT
It is a surface-to-air missile system, and is the primary system of its kind in use by the United States Army and many allied nations. It is manufactured by US defense contractor Raytheon and takes its name from the radar components in the weapon system.
The system missile is distinguished by the feature of detecting the real head from the dummy head
The Patriot system is divided into 3 versions:
PAC-1: range of 70 km at Mach 2.8
PAC-2: range from 96 km to 162 km at speed of Mach 4.1
PAC-3: has a range of 20 km against ballistic missiles at a speed of Mach 4.1
PAC-3 MSE: has a range of 35 km against ballistic missiles
4) ASTER 30-SAMP/T
Aster 30 is manufactured by Eurosam, a European consortium consisting of MBDA France France and MBDA Italy Italy (together 66%) and Thales Group (33%). This missile is designed to intercept and destroy a wide range of air threats, such as supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles at very low altitudes (Sea skimming) and fast, high-performance aircraft or missiles.
3) David's Sling
It is an IDF military system jointly developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and US defense contractor Raytheon, designed to intercept enemy aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, tactical ballistic missiles, medium-range and long-range missiles, fired from a range of 40 km. (24.85 miles) and 300 km (186.41 miles) with speeds up to Mach 7.5. The David's Sling weapon is supposed to replace the MIM-23 Hawk and MIM-104 Patriot in the Israeli arsenal.
David's Sling intercepts Tomahawk cruise missiles from a distance of 40 km.
2) MEADS
The Medium Extended Air Defense System (MEADS) is a mobile air and missile defense system intended to replace the Patriot missile system through a NATO-managed development. The program is a development involving three countries, the United States, Germany, and Italy.
The MEADS system provides mobile ground-based air and missile defense with extended coverage. The system provides enhanced protection for troops against a wide range of threats
1) S-400 Triumph
The S-400 Triumf, formerly known as the S-300PMU-3, is an anti-aircraft system developed in the 1990s by Russia's Almaz Central Design Bureau as an upgrade of the S-300 family. It has been in service with the Russian Armed Forces since 2007. The S-400 uses four missiles to fill its performance cap:
The 40N6 very long-range missile has a range of 400 km and a height of 185 km. It can shoot down targets flying at Mach 14. It can shoot down early warning aircraft, jamming aircraft, and electronic warfare.
The 48N6 long-range missile has a range of 250 km at a speed of Mach 5.9 and is capable of shooting down targets flying at Mach 14.
9M96E2 medium-range missile with a range of 120 km and an altitude of 30 km at a speed of Mach 2.9
The 9M96E is a short-range missile with a range of 40 km and an altitude of 20 km at a speed of Mach 2.6
The S-400 was described by The Economist in 2017 as "one of the best air defense systems out there".
