00:10 When and how is radiotherapy given to the patient?
- Some cases become locally advanced cancer, and surgery is not possible at present.
- In such cases, doctors first give 2-3 months of chemotherapy, known as Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy, to reduce the size of the tumor so that it can be operated on.
- In some cases, surgery is not possible because cancer has spread to many organs.
- In such cases, the main treatment is a combination of radiation and chemotherapy, given for 30 days in the form of Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy.
- During this procedure, the patient is also given a small dose of chemotherapy, known as Cisplatin.
- In some cases, where the invasion of cancer is more than 1cm, the doctor also gives a little chemotherapy along with Adjuvant Radiation.
