If you are the type who likes to customize or tweak your Windows settings, then doing things such as customizing backgrounds, colors and so on is an easy way to do so. One easy thing you can do to customize your Windows appearance is to make the start menu translucent or semi transparent. You can use a free tool called TranslucentSM to do so.

Once you run it, you will then have an icon on your start menu to adjust the tint opacity and tint luminosity opacity. You can even have it hide the search box that is at the top of the start menu.
