While all of the previous princesses Disney created were based on public domain stories, Pocahontas aimed to create the first Disney princess out of a historical figure. Although Pocahontas was a real person, the version we know by Disney is really only loosely based on the original person mostly using the names, ethnicity and geographic location from her tale; Disney took these elements of Pocahontas’s life and combined it with their storytelling techniques to bring us the seventh Disney Princess!
