Completing the 2020 Census helps bring the visibility and political power Arab and Arab American communities need to demand rights and resources.

Lara Kiswani was raised to be proud of her Palestinian family’s history and culture. Her work with Arab Resource and Organizing Center focuses on building power in the Arab and Muslim community in the Bay Area. Alongside the Arab American Institute, Lara advocates for an accurate count to advance Arab American interests.

This video was made in partnership with Arab Resource and Organizing Center (AROC) — a grassroots organization working to empower and organize the Arab community towards justice and self-determination for all —as well as the Arab American Institute, which nurtures and encourages the direct participation of Arab Americans in political and civic life in the United States.

Stories for Change is a joint project between the Census Counts campaign, housed at the Leadership Conference Education Fund, and NextDayBetter. It features storytellers and census advocates whose lived experiences show the deep connections between census participation and a wide spectrum of advocacy, including racial justice, immigration, disability, labor, and faith.
