Welcome to the first-ever conference on Ismaili Studies. This panel, chaired by Omar Alí-de-Unzaga of the Institute of Ismaili Studies, explores the revolutionary medieval text ascribed to the Ismailis: The Epistles of the Brethren of Purity. Nader El-Bizri introduces the Epistles and the state of their translation and current scholarship. Godefroid De Callataÿ dives into some of the more controversial volumes of the Epistles. Finally, Carmela Baffioni compares the Epistles to later Ismaili texts, outlining shared themes.
