Big Laurel Oak Log

We milled this log sometime in late 2022. This footage has just been sitting on my computer waiting for me to do something with it. The ladder is being used on this cut to establish a new reference plane -- IIRC, the previous cut was made using my 36" mill setup. Or maybe the previous cut had drifted and I decided to re-reference. This was a long time ago, lol.

There's a big debate as to if you can use the 661 to push a 62" chain. And, clearly, obviously, you CAN. Is it ideal? Absolutely not. The 880 would be the appropriate power head for this task, but we work with what we got. You MUST put an oiler on it, keep it full throttle, and work slowly. You can see it bogs down fairly frequently but it gets the job done.

I got about a dozen slabs out of this tree. They're all stacked and stickered under cover in the backyard stabilizing for the next few years until they can be used to build casing and trim for when I finish building our home. Projects on projects on projects!
