Evaporator coils are located on top of the furnace. Whenever homeowners prompt their thermostats for air conditioning, the evaporator coils fill with compressed refrigerant, dropping to very low temperatures.

Then, indoor air travels through the return ducts and through the air filter. Once air passes the air filter, it travels over the evaporator coils. As it does, a heat transfer takes place. The air is chilled by the cold given off by the evaporator coils. Then, the cooled air moves through the air ducts and back into the home.
