On Saturday February 11th February my latest exhibition outdoor titled ‘Overheard in Lockdown’ will be on display at the Temple enclosure in Wanstead Park, Epping Forest, London.
During the coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown February 2021, many had taken to daily exercise which was permitted under the rules. Like me, most of us had slipped into a routine same place, same time and often same conversation with people in our ‘bubbles’.
As I passed people in Wanstead Park, I would often catch a snippet of conversation that had no context. We were living in strange times so I decided to capture it. I shot an environmental portrait of the walkers and added their overheard conversation snippet to the caption.
Fast forward two years from the government’s February 22, 2021 announcement of the ‘Roadmap’ out of lockdown, so many of our priorities are now a fading memory. The extra care of vulnerable loved ones, daily death tolls, talk of vaccines and anti-vaxxers, social distancing, numbers limited at weddings and funerals, toilet roll shortages, binge watching, no travel and the boredom to name a few. What will never fade is the loss felt for loved ones who died during the pandemic.

I hope these pictures and snippets of conversation serve as a reminder of where we were all once and just how far we’ve thankfully come. So, a big thank-you to all those who took part in my documentary, to the Stow Brothers who have generously sponsored the exhibition and to Epping Forest, City of London for their continued support.
