Welcome back to Dr Drainz of Apple Drains North Carolina.

People always ask us what is the best rock to use for French Drains. We have two different kinds of stone we are going to use today. The first is called 57 Wash stone and the second is called Railroad cobble, that is a bit larger than the 57 Wash. The weight of the stone are different (Railroad cobble about 12 lbs; 57 Wash about 13 lbs). What makes the difference is we want as much water to go through the rock as possible and when talking about the same volume but different weights means that with more rock, the less water can pass through.

Here I will give real examples to show you how much of the water passes through.
