The original Mini Cooper enjoyed nearly endless motorsport success. For as fierce a competitor as it was in the British Saloon Car Championship, the Cooper S was equally capable on the Rally circuit. With back to back Rally Monte Carlo victories guided by legends Paddy Hopkirk, Timo Makinen, and Rauno Aaltonen, the Mini made up for its small size with gigantic performance.

But it might not have been that way, had a certain John Cooper not sold designer Alec Issigonis on the world of racing. In fact, the Mini Cooper wasn’t designed to race. With its unusual hydrolastic suspension, and go-kart like handling, this is the story of how the classic Mini Cooper conquered the world of motorsport. If you don’t believe me that the Mini Cooper was unlike anything else, just ask Enzo Ferrari, Jack Brabham, and Bruce McLaren; they all loved the car! The Mini is proof that you don't need a bigcar to score big wins!
