“In Glyn Maxwell’s graveyard shift, Rudyard Kipling’s If is about Grenfell Tower, The Charge of the Light Brigade about the Johnson government’s response to Covid, and The Lady of Shalott about the blind eye of the Establishment turned on a recent murder. Hopkins, Christina Rossetti, John Clare and both the Brownings chime in with poems about Channel migrants, trolling, celebrity culture and the Met Police.

Poems so well known no one can hear them any more have been raised from the dead to address the state of England Now. Ghoulish spadework or King Arthur’s knights finally hearing the call?”
