Melinda Kvernbitt

I didn't know about the ravine side path until just before doing this playthrough. I'm guessing that it's there in case you want to go back to get things you missed in the ravine level since you can't go back the exact way you came.

The Exotic Energy Lab is one of the three optional levels on the overworld, although it isn't the first one that's available to you since it requires 5 stars and another one that I do later requires 3. It felt a lot more natural to do this one here since the ravine level exit is right next to it.

From what I know, this level was actually the last one that was created for the game and it seems to be made out of three ideas that could've been expanded to full levels. The creator, Oddwarg, probably felt that the amount of levels in the game was enough. Also, can I just say that I really like the music in this game in how it can be experimental, atmospheric, and memorable. The song in this level actually uses a car key alarm noise and it works so well. There's usually multiple songs per level too, well except for shorter levels and bonus levels like this.

This whole event with Melinda happens when you would get your 6th star, even if you got them in a different order. I decided not to show that if you manage to go all the way back to the frozen cave lift again before fighting Melinda, she'll still bring you up, but says nothing.

Even with translations, you aren't supposed to know exactly why Melinda attacks you here. It seems she learned something about her mother (who's the bedridden dog) and that caused her to want to stop Sulphur in the moment. She couldn't just talk it out because, well, there's a language barrier between them. I like the spaced out dialogue representing how English isn't the mother's native language.
