How to reduce pore size
How do I reduce my pore size is a common question I get asked. Mild cases can be improved with vitamin A creams, special washes and AHA Peels. For really deep prominent pores, I use either TCA CROSS, high density FRAXEL laser or fully ablative laser resurfacing to permanently reduce the size of pores. I also like the use of PIcosure FOCUS for open and enlarged skin pores in Ethnic skin types. INFINI RF microneedling at only 1.5 mm can also reduce skin pore size in all skin types, however 2-3 sessions are ideal.

Facts on reducing pore size
• Mild cases of enlarged pores can be treated with Beta Hydroxy Acid washes, and prescription Vitamin A cream, as well as skin needling and microneedling
• Patients who have oily or acne prone skin tend to have larger skin pores
• Permanently enlarged pores maybe secondary to squeezing pimples and acne
• Large pores can be treated with TCA CROSS or with laser resurfacing
• These treatments offer a permanent solution for reducing pore size
• TCA CROSS is ideal for very deep and individual enlarged pores
• Fraxel laser gives a good overall decrease in pore size
• Picosure FOCUS is great in darker skin types, especially if there is background acne scarring
• Infini RF is also good for rolling acne scars that are associated with large skin pores

Pore size is determined by genetics- some people are born with larger pores than normal. Patients with a history of oily skin or acne generally will have larger pores. Patients who have a history of squeezing their pimples may have permanently enlarged pores.

What is the best treatment for open pores?
The best treatment will depend on your pore size, skin type and previous treatments. Mild cases of open pores can be treated with creams prescribed by a Specialist Dermatologist. Specialist strength Glycolic acid peels can also aid in decreasing mild increases in pores size. Skin needling using a 1.0 mm roller at home can help some people.

For large pores, I perform either TCA CROSS or laser resurfacing. TCA CROSS is an excellent treatment for very deep, and large pores in all skin types- including ethnic skin.

Laser resurfacing is great for the over all treatment of small but deep pores. I use either an erbium Sciton laser, Fraxel lasers, or the CO2 CORE laser for treating pores.

RF eMarix can remodel collagenusing RadioFrequency to reduce pore size by 20-50%. 4-5 treatments are needed, downtime following eMatrix is only 1-2 days. I like this procedure is there are early acne scars associated with open and enlarged skin pores.

Will pore size reduction be permanent?
Yes, once I achieve pore size reduction, it is permanent! TCA CROSS and laser resurfacing gives the most predictable and permanent results for open and enlarged pores.
