SEC Baseball Tournament Begins in Hoover, Alabama, on Tuesday

This week, 12 Southeastern Conference baseball teams will descend upon Hoover, Alabama, a suburb just south of Birmingham, to compete for postseason honors and a chance for a College World Series trophy.

The tournament has been held at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium each year since 1998.

First-round, single-elimination play begins on Tuesday. No. 1 Seed Florida, No. 2 Seed Arkansas, No. 3 Seed LSU and No. 4 Seed Vanderbilt each receive byes to the double-elimination portion of the bracket starting on Wednesday.

Notably, the last two College World series champions, Mississippi State and Ole Miss are both absent from this week’s tournament after both finished at the bottom of Western division standings in the regular season.

On Tuesday, No. 9 Seed Alabama faces No. 8 Seed Kentucky in Game Three and No. 5 Seed Auburn takes on No. 12 Seed Missouri in Game 4.

Currently, 8 Southeastern Conference teams reside among the NCAA Top-25 ranked teams.

The SEC Baseball Tournament is an annual boon to the city of Hoover, Alabama, with the 2019 tournament bringing in $15 million.
