Nathan Cox was pulled over by Virginia State Trooper Melanie McKenney in 2012. Nathan — founder of Virginia Cop Block — filmed the stop, filed a FOIA request, and put it all online. Two years later, Nathan received a summons to appear in court — McKenney claimed he had engaged in “defamation.” That suit — for $5,000 — was dismissed. McKenney then filed a second suit — for $1.35 million. After almost three years of court proceedings, that second suit was tossed as well, but Nathan is now left with about $94,000 in legal fees.
