In this video I explain why Serbia has such close political ties to Russia, despite being completely surrounded by NATO and EU member states. I explain everything from the eastern orthodox Christian and Slavic ties, to its historical alliance with Russia and how the Russian Empire played a big role in Serbia gaining its independence from the Ottoman Empire, as well as how Yugoslavia partially freed itself and thus didn't become a Soviet puppet state during the cold war era and instead leading the non-aligned movement. I also explain Serbia's complicated relationship with NATO and the west due to the Kosovo issue.
