Johnny Depp surprises his Dad, John Depp Sr. with a video congratulating him on the Florida Chapter American Public Works Association - Anthony W. Leffin Lifetime Achievement Award in Tampa April 5th, 2012! A true Public Works Professional and the kind of hidden hero most citizens never hear about.

John Depp Sr. personifies a lifetime of service to Public Works. From humble beginnings in Kentucky as a City Engineer, to his days in South Florida as a Public Works Director and City Engineer and finally his second career representing Contractors, he's been a staunch supporter of the American Public Works Association most of his life.

As one of a very few Life Members in the Florida Chapter, John has been there through thick and thin. His career in Public works began in Kentucky in the early 60's where he served as a City Engineer in Owensboro. In 1970 John took a job as Public Works Director for the City of Miramar and moved the family to Florida. By 1979 we pick up the story with John officially joining APWA. For fifteen years he served as Public Works Director before retiring from the City of Hallandale to represent a contractor specializing in alternative paving processes in 1996. John continued to serve APWA as a steadfast sponsor of our Trade Show in addition to various South Florida Branch events.

John has spent most of his life in Public Works. The most significant evidence of his passion for APWA is his constant attendance at our Trade Show well after most people in his position would have retired and ceased to remain involved. Not John, he has spent countless hours espousing the benefits of alternative paving processes and has been a proponent for APWA as a sponsor and Life Member. In fact, the Florida Chapter wouldn't be what it is today without the support that John Depp has given APWA.
