Autosomal DNA is typically useful to solve problems no more than 5-7 generations back from the test taker. With each additional generation that dies off, research problems on that line that could have been solved become four times more difficult until eventually they simply become impossible. But what if you could reconstruct the DNA of an earlier generation? Their results would match more people on the correct side, share more DNA with those relevant relatives and have less irrelevant relatives to sort through.
