During Eid, Muslims express their gratitude to Allah. They also visibly show joy and congratulate each other. On this day, Muslims chant the Eid Takbir aloud, and this is one of the greatest Sunnahs (traditions) of Eid.

These Eid Takbeerat are recited at both Eid prayer services. In this recording, Mishary Rashid Al-Afasy recites these Takbeerat al Eid. Here is an image of the words spoken in Arabic and English:

On Eid, Muslims exchange gifts, which is another important sunnah for that day. Also, Muslims make lots of istighfar (asking Allah for forgiveness) and pray that Allah accept their good deeds.

The Eid al-Fitr marks the completion of fasting the blessed month of Ramadan, the fourth pillar of Islam.

The Eid al-Adha marks the completion of Hajj (Pilgrimage to Makkah), the fifth pillar of Islam.

According to the Sunnah (tradition) of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) everyone is urged to attend Eid Prayer—men, women, and children.

- Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah
is the Greatest
- There is no deity but Allah
- Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest
- And to Allah belongs the Praise
- Allah is the Greatest in the Greatest Way
- And to Allah belongs the Praise many times
- And Glory be to Allah at the beginning and end of each day.
- There is no deity but Allah alone.
- He fulfilled His Promise, and He supported His
Servant, and He made His Soldiers Victorious
- And He Alone defeated the Confederates
- There is no deity but Allah
- And we worship none but Him
- Making Sincerity of Religion for Him Alone, though the disbelievers dislike that
- O Allah! Send Your Blessings on our Master Muhammad
- And on the Family of our Master Muhammad
- And on the Companions of our Master Muhammad
- And on the Supporters of our Master Muhammad
- And on the Wives of our Master Muhammad
- And on the Offspring of our Master Muhammad
- And send many Salutations upon him.
