Starting with the 992 model year, Porsche will continue to include hybrid technology in its lineup, even though an all-electric 911 is still unlikely.

Some 992 911 models that are undergoing a mid-cycle facelift will have electrified powertrains available as an option within the next six to twelve months.

Given that prototypes have reportedly gotten cosmetic changes in the past, it is likely that the 911 Turbo S will get one. Some countries, such as Germany, the home country of Porsche, require electric test cars; some prototypes are marked with a yellow sticker to signify this.

Porsche CEO Oliver Blume has alluded to the prospect of an electric 911 by saying that it will not be a plug-in hybrid like the 918 Spyder but will instead use 919 Hybrid LMP1 race car design components. Electric motor generators will be the only means of refuelling the internal combustion engine during deceleration. Because of its smaller battery and lack of fast charging requirements, the hybrid 911 Turbo S will use a 400-volt system instead of the 800-volt one used by the Taycan.

In a 2019 interview with Motor Authority, August Achleitner, the previous head of the 911 branch, said that the hybrid Panamera and the 992 generation 911 share an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. As a result, a smooth gearbox and electric motor integration is expected.

There are rumours that the upcoming 911 Turbo, which is purportedly undergoing testing right now, might not even have hybrid technology. But it is expected that the facelift would only result in aesthetic improvements, such as modified exhaust tip and taillight designs, redesigned headlamp internals, and a redesigned front fascia that might incorporate turn signals into the headlights.

It is likely that by the end of this year or early in the next, the updated 911 Turbo S and the new 911 Carrera, which is believed to have a hybrid powertrain option, will be released. The anticipated year of release for these variations in the US market is 2025.
