Amid the tug of war between the Centre and Supreme Court Collegium over the appointment of judges, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju has written to Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud suggesting the inclusion of a government representative in the decision-making process for shortlisting of judges. Last week, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar had also criticized the Supreme Court, for using the doctrine of basic structure to strike down the constitutional amendment that introduced the National Judicial Appointments Commission Act.
