I've managed to get hold of some F1 brakes and I'm going to explain exactly how they work.

These F1 brakes are absolutely incredible they stop an F1 car from 200 miles an hour down to zero in less than four seconds and due to the deceleration can cause a driver's helmet to weigh over 50kg under braking.

I'm Scott Mansell from Driver61 where we train racing drivers to fulfil their driving potential. I'm going to jump in and explain what each of these pieces actually does in the braking system as a whole, before going through them in a bit more detail.

The braking systems run through the pedal, master cylinder, brake pipe, calliper, brake pads and finally through the wheel and tyre.
