As Science Director of the Science Museum Group, Roger Highfield oversees millions of visitors to UK scientific attractions every year. Here he reviews his career, his philosophy, and how to engage diverse audiences through a range of media and methods.

His expertise covers public engagement with the latest scientific research on a massive scale, through events, citizen science, exhibitions, galleries, and a range of popular science books.

Science Editor of The Daily Telegraph for two decades and former Editor of New Scientist, he has launched major competitions, collaborated with the BBC on Megalab and LiveLab mass experiments and recruited thousands of participants into the MRC's Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit on one of the world's largest mass cognitive testing experiments.

Roger Highfield is currently Science Director at the Science Museum Group. He is a member of the Medical Research Council and a visiting Professor at University College London and Oxford University.

He gave this presentation as part of the Academy of Medical Sciences New Fellow's Admissions Day 2021, held virtually in July 2021.
