Common causes of engine ticking noises when idling or accelerating and how to find the source of the noise.
Does the sound increase with the engine RPM when stopped?
Check belts, bearings, lifters, and other engine components RPMs.

Does the sound increase with speed when moving?
Check rotating objects such as tires, CV axles, and driveline.

Does the sound come from the bottom or the top of the engine?
A knocking noise from the bottom of the engine might be a bad bearing or rod.

If possible, try to locate the noise and ensure nothing is loose and rattling around.

Possible Causes of Ticking Noise:
Low Engine Oil or Low Oil Pressure
Exhaust Leak (Usually Around the Exhaust Manifold)
CV Axle
Valve Train (Lifter, Rocker Arm, Cam, Pushrods)
Bad Fuel Injector
Purge Valve
Timing Chain
