Unboxing
There are two color options – the one with grey, as filmed here. A model with rose gold edges is available too. As already said - the build quality is very solid and is among the best on the market.
Part of the package are the charging station – that can also be used as virtual wall, filters, the water tank and some papers, as usual. Moisture proof mat is also available – excellent idea in case you plan to do wet mopping a lot.

Design
The Roborock S50 – as is the exact model of this second generation adds a lot of improvements on top of the first one. Big upgrade is the ability to combine dry and wet cleaning – being able to act as vacuum and mop at the same time is pretty exciting, although there are plenty of other models that are capable of that trick too.
It has a single side brush – on the right side. I would have been happier to see two of them, and that was immediately going to be a step up compared to the Roomba 980 by iRobot – the direct competitor in this case.
Interestingly, the dustbin is removed by lifting up the open lid and not from the back side, as it seems to be the trendier choice this year. The water tank is easily detachable and may be used or not – depending on the cleaning type.
There is of course high quality filtering system – with main filter in combination with HEPA, which is washable on top of that!

Specs
Let’s cover the technical highlights: Up to 150 minutes independent operation, up to 250m2 range covered, 2000Pa suction power, and just 60db noise level – these are just part of the great specs! And yeah – they sound impressive. The main advantage of the robot is its smartness. It has a laser distance sensor located at the top.

Cleaning performance
Having so many great features – we are expecting nothing different than excellent cleaning. And we get it! Using its intelligent cleaning system, the robot has very optimal path of cleaning, supported by location sensors which are constantly connected to your home WiFi.
The 500ml tank is smartly designed – with almost no chance to spill part of it while servicing. And you can easily take out the HPEA filter and wash it, if needed. I’d recommend getting spares and replace them every few months for optimal results. Unfortunately you won’t find replacements as part of the original package and these are to be ordered separately.

The Roborock generation 2 has been my main cleaning appliance at home for the last 5 weeks. It never failed me and the more I use it, the greater features I notice. Yes – apparently now vacuum robots are getting smarter, which boosts their price, and in my opinion the second generation of Roborock justifies its 500- dollar price-tag offering brilliant cleaning performance with almost every important smart feature you may think of.
