Many health experts agree that medical services have a limited impact on a person’s health and well-being. About 80-90% of health outcomes are due to non-medical factors such as where people live, learn, work, and age. Collectively called the social determinants of health, these factors can impact health directly, but also indirectly by shaping how people behave.
For the next year, Blue Cross Blue shield of Michigan will be taking a deeper look at these factors, starting next month with Food Insecurity.
