I've fully embraced lasers into my work, and not just for leathercraft. I've also used them in my scale models. There's so much you can do with them -- if you're open to learning some basic software. Most of my actual design work is done in Adobe Illustrator. This is a paid subscription, but Inkscape is a good free option.

This video is an unboxing and quick demo of xTool's D1 Pro 20W diode laser.
Full disclosure: xTool sent me this machine in exchange for this video. They didn't say I had to give a glowing review of it (I don't do that). They simply asked for whatever video I came up with to be posted before Black Friday. My opinion: It's a good machine and makes quick work of cutting leather, making patterns, and engraving metal. The only downside is the lack of an enclosure. So when using this or any other laser make sure you have adequate ventilation.
