This story can be also be used to introduce a topic on pets. The book shows some of the things that cats need, such as toys, food and a bed.

The story also presents differences in a positive light - where Harold is older and more relaxed, Muffin is young and full of life. At first, this seems like a problem for the two of them, but they soon find out that they can learn a lot from each other. This helps children to learn that we all have our differences and individual personalities, but this is what makes us unique!
