First of a two part video that looks at surface grinding. Surface grinding is not generally used by hobby machinists but learning the basics of the process can help to impress a future employer or bring someone to farm out certain operations to a specialized shop because they would understand that this technique could help in completing and important part. In this video, we will look at the basic cutting action of a grinding wheel, how to operate a manual surface grinder, wheel dressing and part preparation for first cut as well as speeds an feeds for grinding. As for all THATLAZYMACHINIST videos, this video is produced for novice , garage or beginner machinists. You can find all my videos as well as project drawings and course notes on my website THATLAZYMACHINIST.COM . Thanks for understanding that I am a professional toolmaker and teacher but I am not a professional video producer (and it shows). I produce these videos for fun as a little retirement project that lets me give back a little of what was passed on to me by so many amazing trades people most of whom, sadly, are no longer with us.
