In my last episode, I showed how to design a multilayer mandala in Adobe Illustrator. In this episode, I show how I made that mandala. I use the Illustrator design to audition a variety of different color combinations before selecting the final color palette.
A multilayer mandala is a challenge to paint and assemble! If you paint after cutting, it is hard to completely cover the face of the layer without getting paint on the cut edges, yet painting the edges completely is almost impossible. Gluing is also difficult, given the complexity of the cut designs. My plan here is to address this by both painting and applying adhesive BEFORE cutting. I show my approach to masking and applying adhesive sheets, what worked well and what didn't. I show final assembly and discuss the fixes I will try next time to get a better result.
