Wet wipes containing plastic are being banned in the UK later this year after being blamed for clogging up waterways and spreading microplastics.

It’s deemed so serious an issue, flushed wipes have changed the course of the river Thames by a clump the size of two tennis courts.

TalkTV reporter Victoria Innes is in West London to find what has been dubbed "Wet Wipe Island".

It’s believed the 2.5 million wet wipes flushed down the toilet every year are helping to block around 300,000 sewers, affecting water quality and biodiversity.

Libby Peake from charity Green Alliance says the government has been brought in a number of single use plastics bans, and this latest ban is following the trend.

Though she added, “it doesn't go far enough.”
