If shows or movies like Bridgerton's Queen Charlotte have peaked your interest in 18th century styles, you may be wondering where to begin! Even if these shows don't claim to be historically accurate with their costumes, the inspiration still came from the real fashions of the past. So what did they wear in the 18th century? Where did styles come from? How was clothing made? And what were all of these garments named? So let's cover some basics of 18th century fashion today!

If you're looking to continue doing research into the fashion of this era I highly recommend starting with exploring Pinterest boards that others have already organized (searching by pins is also great, but it doesn't really listen to exact dates well). You'll notice that quite a few museums, such as the Met, Victoria & Albert, LACMA, and more come up quite often for antique garments. If you're looking for images of the era searching for "portraits" or "fashion plates" of specific years or decades will yield the best success.
