There are sooooo many ways to paint faux wood! And as scenic artists, it seems that all we do is paint wood to look like wood. So here are the basics for quick and easy techniques that can get you started with any variety of wood.

The techniques in this video are best suited for theater, because they can be viewed from a distance. The goal isn't high levels of realism, but to convey the impression of wood.

The techniques in the video are:
1. Brushed
2. Dragged
3. Graining tools
4. Bare wood glaze
5. Old wood

For this video I used Rosco Off-Broadway paints and sealed with a Varathane brand gloss sealer.
