NOTE FROM TED: Please do not look to this talk as a substitute for medical advice. The health effects of breast implants remain an emerging field of study. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/t...

Dr. Laura Miles discusses the vague entity of breast implant illness. This has been sparked by the recent recall of many of Allergans implants as they link them to a specific type of cancer. For many years, women have suffered a multitude of symptoms that they feel are related to their implants but have been brushed aside by the medical community. This historic recall has opened the door that these issues are not only legitimate but that more research and investigation needs to take place. In the meantime, women who suspect they have breast implant illness need a guideline on how to figure out if their symptoms are related to their implants. Data and case reports of illnesses published that will be the basis of this discussion. Dr. Laura Miles graduated with honors from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Societies in undergraduate and medical school, respectively. She completed her internship and residency through the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
Originally board certified in Ophthalmology, Dr. Miles’ personal journey toward healthy living led her into training with the Anti-aging and Regenerative Medical Society. This special training resulted in yet another board certification, this one by the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine board. Her diverse background makes for a unique approach in managing and maintaining a healthy life. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
