In Undaunted Hope, 21 brave storytellers, all former patients at The Meadows or other Meadows Behavioral Healthcare treatment programs, open up about everything from childhood trauma and abuse to PTSD, perfectionism, sex addiction, suicidality, substance use disorders, and family dysfunction. Their experiences may vary but they share a common thread: Each dark secret and deep hurt eventually gives way to hope and healing.

These aren’t just inspirational recovery stories, though. More than a dozen world-renowned psychotherapists including Resmaa Menakem, Peter Levine, Patrick Carnes, Richard Schwartz, and Tian Dayton, provide clinical, human-focused perspective and insights that takes some of the mystery out of therapy. Each story offers several opportunities for education and insight. These comments aren’t meant to be case consultations, but instead help demystify the conditions faced and explore the treatment methods used.

Trauma, mental health issues, and addictions can be very isolating. They are often shrouded in fear and shame. If you or someone you love is feeling overwhelmed, you’re not alone. This book is a reminder that anyone willing to do the hard work can come out the other side stronger, healthier, and happier. Whatever the source of your pain, healing is possible.
