ESG isn't all about the Environment: Putting the S&G back into ESG, with Paul Fisher (Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership), Mark Goyder (Tomorrow's Company), and Lionel Taylor (Trade Advisory Network)

Why you should watch: There is a lot more to ESG than concern about the environment. Governance concerns have a long history in the UK, and there are perennial issues that have to be confronted, such as accounting probity, executive pay, transparency and responsibility. Have they gotten worse in an era of founder-controlled tech and e-commerce companies? Has Covid19 made these concerns more relevant by, for instance, interrupting just-in-time supply chains? How much should we take human rights issues into consideration? There are lots of issues to get our teeth into, and - thanks to a distinguished panel - a lively discussion ensued.

Moderators: Andrew Hilton (Director, CSFI) & Jane Fuller (Co-director, CSFI)

Panellists:

Paul Fisher spent 26 years at the BofE (latterly as Executive Director in the Markets Directorate), and is a former chair of the LIBF. He is currently a senior fellow at the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, looking at issues around climate change and financial services.

Mark Goyder founded Tomorrow's Company in 1995. He is a member of the UK's Investor Stewardship Working Group and is the author, most recently, of Entrusted:: Stewardship for responsible wealth, with Ong Boon Hwee, an FT book of the month.

Lionel Taylor is a managing director at the Trade Advisory Network, which provides support to financial institutions in new markets with new supply chains. He was formerly head of global trade and supply chain financing at Lloyds Banking Group and RBS. He is co-author of LIBF's professional qualification in supply chain financing.
