It might have the same 2.0-litre turbo engine as the Volkswagen Golf R Mk8, but the Arteon R Shooting Brake is a slightly different beast to the hyper hatch.

Arguably the best looking car VW currently sells (especially in Shooting Brake form), the Arteon R continues the tried-and-tested formula of stuffing a 316hp four-cylinder engine under the bonnet and sending power to all-four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. It'll go from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds, 0.2 seconds slower than the lighter Golf R, and has a top speed that's limited to 155mph. But while there are plenty of similarities on paper, the Arteon R's subtle changes gives it a slightly different personality.
