Aang was NOT the only surviving airbender in Avatar: The Last Airbender

Ever wonder how it was that over the course of 100 years, Fire Lord Sozin was able to hunt down and eradicate an entire culture? We, of course, now about real world comparisons today, but it never really sat right with me. We know that the Fire Nation genocide of the Airbenders happened. But couldn’t some have escaped and hidden?
Well it turns out, that’s exactly what happened. In the Dark horse Comics, Avatar the Last Airbender Lost Adventures comics, we find out that Fire Lord Sozin, after killing Roku, had set traps to capture the remaining Air Nomads who had escaped to the Earth Kingdom, proving that some did survive!
What probably happened is that, because they had to go into hiding, had families and their culture was phased out because, obviously the fire nation would have killed them. Remember Hama the bloodbender hid in a Fire Nation town until she got caught with her witchy antics!
And then, there’s the Harmonic Convergence! People like Bumi suddenly being able to Airbend? This isn’t completely random!

Avatar the Last Airbender still remains a top watch on Netflix, and we don’t know what the new adaptation might bring. So why don’t we dive into this theory to see whether Aang was the last airbender, and if not, how that has implications not only for future Airbenders like Tenzin, but for Legend of Korra and ATLA as a whole!
