Why some website have www and others don't have www?

URL - Uniform resource locator. Every website has it's own unique URL.

website parts can have below structure in order:
Protocol, sub domain, domain, TLD, directory path.

Protocol :
http, https, ftp

Sub Domain :
www (world wide Web)

Domain:
In internet evolution period everything was defined as IP address. It was very difficult to remember IP address. So DNS concept implemented which stores domain name equivalent IP address.

TLD:
Top Level Domain. Example : .gov, .com,. in, .org, .edu
