The Ferrari 458 was a game changer when it was released. The 458, which replaced the Ferrari F430, took such huge leaps forward that it's still unreal comparing the F430 to the 458. The F430 replaced the Ferrari 360 which is where this story starts.

The Ferrari 360 was the very first all-aluminum space frame chassis vehicle Ferrari had ever made for the public. It was a strong partnership with American based Aluminum titan, Alcoa. The Ferrari 360 was larger than the Ferrari F355 it replaced, but was still 25% lighter, and 40% stronger than the steel chassis vehicles Ferrari used to make. The 360 was the beginning of all-aluminum space frame chassis for Ferrari.

The F430 took what the 360 accomplished and improved on it drastically in the power and performance department, while using the same Alcoa developed chassis from the Ferrari 360. Although the roofline, the windows, and the doors were directly from the 360, the Ferrari F430 looked significantly different. And the new design improved the aerodynamics and drag coefficient over the 360.

It's now 2010 and Ferrari blows the world away with the Ferrari 458 italia. The 458 was brand new from the ground up. Ferrari and Alcoa had experimented and figured out the all-aluminum chassis game and were ready to push that envelope as far as they could with the Ferrari 458 italia. The car was a HUGE departure from the 360 and the F430. The engine, the design, the sound, and that feel... so good it hurt!
