Touch lamps were very popular at one point but they lost popularity because the stopped working. If you go to a thrift store you will probably encounter a touch lamp.

So how do you fix it? There is a control board in the base that normally is the problem. It is also possible there is a bad wire or a faulty socket.

When ordering a touch lamp be sure to get one that can support your usage. When buying the bulbs make sure you get ones that are dimmable and match your control board. In this example, I use dimmable LED lights. The bottom two levels work great. The top level will sometimes "flicker". This is because we are hitting the limit of the board and it doesn't have quite enough power to fully light the LED bulbs. I have also used cheap candelabra bulbs. They work fine but they don't get as bright. The control board I have is rated for LED and Incandescent bulbs. Some are for LEDs only or Incandescent Only. Also, this control board is for three levels of light and an off. Some boards are on/off only. So make sure you look at what the board supports when you go to order the boards.

If you look closely, the original board is wired differently than what is shown in the replacement board diagram. It is wired on the white wire instead of the black one.
