Portland residents are becoming more aware on the danger posed by the city's over 1,650 unreinforced masonry (URMs) buildings in an earthquake.
The sad reality is there are more families at risk living under unreinforced masonry Chimneys. Any home build before 1975 has a chimney that has not steel incorporated into the structure of the chimney.
We tear down and rebuild chimney to the current seismic code while preserving the homes historic architecture. We will tear down your chimney and rebuild it to withstand an earthquake.
A brace or exterior strap is not a structural improvement. The chimney must have rebar, wire, wall ties and chimney tie backs that secure to the structure of the hoist at the floor and ceiling with through bolts, nuts and washers.

If your chimney is un-reinforced it will shear in an earthquake and topple down on to what is below it.
