Broadway Stands Up For Freedom was created 17 years ago by aspiring musical theater actors to highlight social injustices and civil rights issues through song and spoken word. This year’s show, My Body, My Business, celebrated trans and women’s rights along with the work being done at the NYCLU and ACLU. Tony Award winner Celia Keenan-Bolger was honored with the Michael Friedman Freedom Award for her many contributions as an artist and activist. Level Forward and Eva Price were also honored for their roles in the Broadway community.

The show was hosted by Tony Award winner Laura Benanti and directed by Rachel Chavkin, winner of Best Director at the Tony’s for her work on the show Hadestown. Performers included Judy Kuhn, Kelli O’Hara, Phillipa Soo, along with many others.
